Dance Immersed in Art

The Museum of Modern Renaissance is one of Somerville’s most unique creative sanctuaries: an immersive “Temple of Art” envisioned and built by artists Nicholas Shaplyko and Ekaterina Sorokina. After purchasing the building in 2002 (a former Masonic Temple/lodge), they began transforming it into a living artwork: walls, ceilings, and rooms turned into a full-body experience of color, symbolism, and imagination.

At its core, the museum is dedicated to spiritual and human uplift, created to help people “realize and express… the beauty, nobility, and divinity of the human spirit.”

Why Reiki Dance at the Museum?

As one of the Reiki Dance locations, the Museum of Modern Renaissance is a space that amplifies what Reiki Dance is already about: embodied presence, intention, and creative spirit.

  • A temple-like atmosphere for intention. ModRen was intentionally shaped as a “Temple of Art,” not just a gallery; so when we enter with an intention and move with care, it feels like stepping into a space designed for inner connection.

  • Immersive art that moves you while you move. The museum’s paintings and symbolism surround you. Inviting wonder, reflection, and imagination. That visual intensity can deepen the way we listen to our bodies and let the dance become personal and spiritual, not performative.

  • Acoustics + creative energy. The resonance of the room, the inspiration of the murals, and the creative charge of the space create a setting where live music and movement feel especially alive. (This is the kind of venue where the environment becomes part of the practice.)
